Benefit concert for Huron Women’s Shelter
Goderich, ON – Huron Women’s Shelter is inviting residents of Huron County to enjoy a little night music in support of the shelter with “An Evening in June” – a benefit concert and strawberry social on Monday, June 13th, 2011. The event will take place at Northside United Church (54 Goderich Street West) in Seaforth at 7:30 p.m. The cost of admission is a donation to Huron Women’s Shelter, with all proceeds directed towards the work of HWS.

Elder Abuse Prevention Committee of Huron County launches billboard campaign
Goderich, ON -
The Elder Abuse Prevention Committee is urging residents of Huron County to consider whether they, or their loved ones, are aging with respect and care. Their latest campaign will kick off this week with the unveiling of a new billboard at three locations in Huron County.
Beginning May 23rd, the “Aging with Respect and Care” billboards can be seen in Exeter on Main Street, North of Walper Street (on the East side, facing South East) and in Goderich on Huron Road, opposite Mill Street (on the South side, facing East).
Beginning May 30th, the billboard can be seen in Clinton on King Street, North of Mary Street (on the West side, facing East).

Huron Women’s Shelter launches booklet on sexual assault prevention for teens
Goderich, ON – On Monday, May 2nd, to kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Huron Women’s Shelter (HWS) will launch a new sexual assault prevention booklet geared towards teenagers.
“Let’s Talk About Sex” is a brand new magazine-style resource from HWS that addresses the importance of healthy relationships and sexual assault prevention, and provides readers with information on how to access a variety of programs and services in Huron County. The launch event will take place at Goderich District Collegiate Institute (260 South Street, Goderich) at 11:20 a.m. on Monday.

Huron Women’s Shelter needs your help this holiday season
Goderich, ON – Huron Women’s Shelter, Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services is counting on
the support of local businesses, friends, and members of the community this holiday season, to help women
and their children have a brighter future.
Topping the wish list this year are basic needs such as large bottles of shampoo and conditioner, new
underwear for women and children, towels, blankets, comforters, winter coats, boots, pajamas and slippers.
The Centres will also gratefully accept donations of non-perishable food items and more traditional gifts or
gift cards which women and children (girls and boys up to age 16) may want to find under the tree. The gifts
are also used throughout the year as birthday presents. Any donations can be dropped off at the Goderich
Centre, 376 Huron Road, near the M&M Meat Shop.

Women Shelters Across Ontario to Benefit from $248,200 Grant
MPP Carol Mitchell Announces Two Year Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation
Goderich – On Friday morning, local MPP Carol Mitchell formally announced that a province-wide research project is being launched thanks to a $248,200 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The newly-formed Ontario Shelter Research Committee is now conducting the first comprehensive review of the services provided by 96 shelters across the province for women and children fleeing abusive situations. When completed, the findings will enable a better understanding of the shelters’ roles and contributions within the larger network of community services.

New website provides information on shelter, support, counseling and advocacy
Goderich, ON – The Huron Women’s Shelter, Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services is launching
a brand new website that promises to provide the most up-to-date information on their services, programs,
and upcoming events in an easy to navigate format. The official launch party will take place on Friday,
March 27th at 11:00 a.m. in the Goderich Town Library (52 Montreal Street, Goderich). Members of the
media and general public are welcome to attend, and will get an exclusive look at the new website.

Daily necessities top the wish list at the Women’s Shelter of Huron
Goderich, ON – There are some basic needs on the wish list of the staff and residents of the Women’s
Shelter, Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services of Huron this Christmas. The Centres in Goderich,
Clinton and Exeter are hoping that some simple gifts from the community will help women and their
children have a better holiday and new year.
